The Kennedy Collection Viewing

4 April 2004

Our then member, Max Kennedy, invited the Club to view his private collection of cars, and what a treat we were in for.

26 of us arrived at Max’s home at 10am, and assembled in his garage to admire his exotica:

  • 1928 Alvis ‘Le Mans’ which had won Brooklands in 1929, and one of only 34 built

  • 1946 MG built and raced by the legendary Harry Firth

  • 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster still in 100% original condition and left-hand drive

  • 1958 Porsche 356A Coupe, an ex-rally from South Africa

  • 1964 Maserati Sebring with all original interior trim, chrome and body paint

  • 1972 Jaguar E type V12, only 64,000 miles but with a complete rebuild

  • 1977 Lamborghini Contach LP400, a car which stunned the world on release, and continues to

  • 1986 Ferrari Mondial Convertible, the last leaded fuel car Ferrari made, with only 19,800 kms

Max had kindly organised a scenic route to our luncheon destination, taking us through the cane growing area of the region.

Arriving at noon, the Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast had arranged a special parking area for us on grass, where our cars drew much attention and admiration, and were safely away from the general parking area.

The resort had that wonderful ambience of an island resort, with an open-sided dining room overlooking the pool area which was surrounded by palm trees.  We enjoyed a tempting smorgasbord lunch and presented Max with a bottle of champagne in appreciation of his invitation.
